Michael Conforto – the Mets first selection in the 2014 first-year player draft – was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for April 9-19.

Michael BaronConforto had a fantastic week for the St. Lucie Mets last week, going 15-for-41 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 11 games.

Conforto leads the Florida State League in home runs, RBI, total bases (29) and slugging percentage (.707).

The most impressive part about Conforto’s performance is he has done this in a notorious pitchers league where home runs typically go to die in the thick humidity.

His bat is unquestionably advanced for his age and experience level. It’s hard to ever predict a player would be so dominant so quickly in this kind of league, but no doubt this is an impressive start to his first full season of professional baseball.

It’s obvious, but if he continues to excel, its logical to assume a promotion to Binghamton will be his reward mid-year.

His glove is still a work a work in progress, which is fine considering the outfield is relatively new to him. He may ultimately be an offensive-oriented player, which is perfectly fine if he continues to progress at the rate he has.
