Mets hope David Wright could return when eligible on April 30, but unrealistic

David Wright 1 slice

Rich MacLeodUpdated, 4:10 PM: Sandy Alderson clarified his remarks on Wright prior to Tuesday’s game, telling reporters that nothing has changed and that it’s realistic that Wright will wind up being on the DL for a total of three weeks.

While Alderson and the Mets are hopeful that Wright can come back when he’s eligible to return on April 30th, it’s unrealistic to completely expect that.

Terry Collins also spoke to reporters, saying that Wright has been exercising to keep his legs in shape, and is right on schedule to resume baseball activities shortly.

Last Tuesday, David Wright suffered what the team was describing as a mild hamstring strain.

BaronWright was placed on the 15-day disabled list the following morning, which meant he could be eligible to return next Thursday, April 30.

According to the New York Post, Sandy Alderson said Wright might be able to return when he’s eligible next Thursday when the Mets are back home to play the Nationals at Citi Field.

“He’s on schedule,” Alderson said Monday. “I wouldn’t say he’s ahead of schedule, but he’s not behind schedule.”

Last week, Alderson said it was more realistic Wright would be out three weeks, considering that’s how long it takes for these strains to heal.

For now, Eric Campbell will remain the full-time third baseman, Terry Collins has said.
