With Bobby Parnell and Vic Black on their way back to the Mets, some questions have arisen as to whether or not Jeurys Familia will retain his job as the team’s closer.
On Sunday, Terry Collins clarified the situation.
Familia will remain the team’s closer when Parnell and Black return no matter what, Collins explained.
Collins said Parnell would have to earn the closer job back from Familia, who would have to struggle for the possibility to even arise.
Collins said he feels comfortable with Black and Parnell in setup roles.
Familia leads the league with five saves this season. He has nine strikeouts and has issued only one walk in 6 2/3 innings so far in 2014.
