The Mets may have a deal in place to sign Vladimir Guerrero’s nephew, Gregory Guerrero, for $1.8 million, reports to FanGraphs’ Kiley McDaniel.
According to McDaniel, Guerrero is a shortstop who profiles as a power bat with speed. Eventually, McDaniel says he could end up at third base.
The Mets had about $2.7 million to spend in the international free agent pool during the 2014-15 season. Should the Mets agree with Guerrero at the aforementioned terms, they would have about $730,000 left to spend in this year’s signing period, and the $1.8 million would exceed the amount they paid to sign Amed Rosario in 2012 ($1.75 million).
Due to his age, the Mets can’t officially sign Guerrero until he is eligible to sign in July.
