Terry Collins isn’t entirely sure who will serve as the team’s closer on Wednesday night should the need arise. But, he does know who it won’t be.
Jeurys Familia will not be available in the Mets series finale against the Phillies tonight. Familia has closed three games in a row.
Clearly, the closer role will be by committee on Wednesday. The Mets could conceivably play matchups to get ninth inning outs tonight depending on who comes up in the ninth inning, but that also depends on who is available and what the situation is. My guess is they’d look to use Jerry Blevins and maybe Buddy Carlyle in that spot, but again, it all depends on what happens to that point.
It would be a surprise if Collins considered using Rafael Montero even though he has late-inning relief stuff. It seems Collins and Dan Warthen continue to talk about his one-dimensional approach during last Friday’s game against the Braves.
