Jacob deGrom will start for the Mets in their home opener today at 1:10 PM. deGrom – the reigning National League Rookie of the Year – is honored to get the nod for the Mets as they open their home schedule this afternoon.
“I was really honored whenever they told me I was going to have that game and I’ve been looking forward to it since then,” deGrom said on Sunday, according to the New York Post.
“It’s something he should remember for a long time,” Terry Collins said early Sunday. “I think it’s great for him, a tip of the hat to what he accomplished and who he is,” Collins said. “And it will be fun to watch.”
