Bobby Parnell, Vic Black to begin rehab assignments soon

M BaronBobby Parnell and Vic Black have been in Port St. Lucie continuing to rehabilitate from their respective injuries. They could soon be ready to take the next steps towards returning to the Mets.

On Sunday, Terry Collins said both Parnell and Black are expected to start rehab assignments soon, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Collins said Parnell could start his assignment in the Florida State League, whereas Black could start at a higher level, signaling he might be closer to returning.

Collins did not specify when either might return to the Mets, although both were eligible to come off the disabled list today.

Last month, Parnell said it was possible he could return by mid-April, although it has always been expected he would return in the early part of May.

Parnell has not pitched since Opening Day in 2014 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery on his elbow. Black was placed on the disabled list with shoulder soreness/weakness and did not appear in a Major League Spring Training game after March 9.
