Terry Collins discusses Matt Harvey’s start, expectations for 2015

M BaronTerry Collins set some expectations for Matt Harvey’s season debut on Thursday, as well as the rest his 2015 season with reporters on Thursday morning in Washington.

Collins expects a soft limit for his pitch count to be somewhere in the 90s, but doesn’t expect it will exceed that figure today.

Harvey is expected to throw around 190 innings this season, assuming all goes well, Collins explained. He didn’t specify when or if the Mets would be skipping any of Harvey’s starts to accommodate such a limit.

As for his start today, Collins said jokingly, “Today, he’s going to be a jerk. Because it’s his turn to pitch.”

Collins said Harvey is, “anxious” to make this start, and expects him to be really amped up in the first inning.

The first inning, this guy’s going to be throwing 98, 99 mph. That’s who he is,” Collins explained.

Collins also attempted to downplay the significance of his return.

“It’s a novelty to you. It’s baseball to me,” he said.
