M BaronZack Wheeler underwent Tommy John Surgery to repair a completely torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament in his right elbow late last month, ending his 2015 season before it started.

After the Mets announced Wheeler would require Tommy John Surgery, it was later revealed by Marc Carig of Newsday Wheeler also had a partially torn tendon in his elbow.

Prior to the procedure, Wheeler told reporters Dr. Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York would not only replace the ligament in his elbow, but would also repair the damage to the tendon.

The team termed the procedure as “successful.” However, Wheeler told Carig this week due to the tendon also being torn, he might not be able to return to a big league mound until July, 2016, although Assistant GM John Ricco told Carig it’s too early in the process to map out timelines for Wheeler’s recovery.
