Daniel Murphy played in another minor league game at Tradition Field on Friday and went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
Murphy is expected to join the Mets in Washington, and while Sandy Alderson hasn’t committed to Murphy being available on Opening Day, there’s increasing optimism he will avoid the disabled list and start against the Nationals on Monday.
If Murphy is unavailable, he would be placed on the disabled list retroactive to nine days prior to Opening Day. Ruben Tejada will likely get the start at second base instead, and Daniel Muno will go north with the club as a backup infielder.
