
It’s been suggested by many members of the media the Mets have a more interesting product than the Yankees do at this point in time. Apparently, ticket buyers agree.
According to the New York Post, the average price of a regular season Mets ticket at Citi Field Field this season is up almost 19 percent, while the average price to see the Yankees is down 27 percent in 2015.
In dollars, Mets tickets on ticket resale sites are up an average of $16 from last season to $104 per seat, whereas an average ticket to a Yankee game at home is down to $101 per game.
“There is a little bit more excitement around the Mets this year,” TiqIQ spokesman Chris Matcovich told the New York Post. “You have all this young talent coming up.”
There’s certainly a lot more positive buzz surrounding the Mets than the Yankees this year. The Mets are getting Matt Harvey back, there’s more premium young pitching talent on the way, and they showed last year they’re clearly on the rise. The Yankees, on the other hand, have an aging roster with the most controversial player in this era of the game coming back, and may have more leaner days ahead than the Mets do at this point in time.
The fact ticket sales are up and there’s a higher demand is great all around for the club. Aside from the benefits of selling more tickets, it’s about time Citi Field had a regular buzz in it on a daily basis. It’s no fun going to a game and having the ballpark resemble a Florida State League game…
