M BaronFrom the day Matt Reynolds step foot in the Mets minor league complex this past winter, he was making waves with his physique and overall progress as a middle infield prospect within the organization.

He continued to progress throughout the exhibition season, often creating valid discussions about whether or not the Mets should promote him to the big league roster, or even make him their Opening Day shortstop.

For his performance, Reynolds earned the John Murphy Award, which recognizes the best all around rookie in camp, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

He hit .355 with an .852 OPS in 55 games with Double-A Binghamton in 2014. He was then promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas in mid-2014, and hit .333 with an .864 OPS under Wally Backman. He was a 2014 Sterling Award recipient in September, an award which recognizes top performers in the organization.

That success continued this spring – Reynolds hit .391 with two home runs and ten RBI in camp this spring, six of which came in two games.
