Earlier this week, the Mets reportedly and unsurpsingly placed Cesar Puello on waivers, but according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Puello went unclaimed and has cleared waivers.
There was speculation among industry experts Puello could get claimed, but he wasn’t yet viewed as a big league player by the Mets. So, it makes sense other teams would agree with that evaluation and not take a risk on him. He’s still talented, and now he can go back to Las Vegas, hit the reset button and try to restablish himself and hopefully get back on the track the organization envisioned for him a couple of years ago.
Puello could not refuse a minor league assignment, so he will be outrighted off the 40-man roster and sent to the minor leagues.
