After struggling upon being promoted to Double-A Binghamton last season, the Mets have decided to place OF prospect Brandon Nimmo back in Double-A to start the season.
Nimmo got off to a fast start with Single-A St. Lucie in 2014, hitting .322 with an .820 OPS in 62 games, earning a promotion to Double-A Binghamton mid-year. But upon joining the B-Mets, Nimmo had a difficult time adjusting to the pitching in the Eastern League, and finished with a .238 average and a .735 OPS with 54 strikeouts in 240 at-bats.
Nimmo just turned 22 in March, and given Nimmo’s struggles in Binghamton last year, it’s not really a surprise he’s starting out there again in 2015. Many expected he would be promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas, but it’s clear the Mets want him to develop more before enduring the final test before the big leagues.
This shouldn’t slow Nimmo down on his track to the big leagues – if all goes well, he’ll be at Triple-A anyway sometime during this season.
