Daniel Murphy took a few more positive steps on Wednesday in his recovery from a pulled hamstring, hitting and running the bases in a minor league game in Port St. Lucie.
It was the second consecutive day Murphy fully participated in a game.
According to Kristie Ackert of the Daily News, the club believes Murphy will be ready for Opening Day, although Sandy Alderson didn’t commit to such a scenario on Wednesday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Terry Collins said Murphy will not travel with the team to Texas this weekend.
If that’s the case, it’s unlikely either Daniel Muno or Matt Reynolds will make the team.
However, if Murphy is deemed unable to go for Monday and goes to the disabled list, Muno is the most likely to make the club as a backup infielder, with Reynolds starting the year as the starting shortstop at Triple-A Las Vegas.
