With the acquisitions of Jerry Blevins and Alex Torres on Monday, it comes as no surprise the Mets optioned LHP Dario Alvarez and re-assigned him to the minor league side on Tuesday, the team announced.
Alvarez had a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 innings over ten games this spring, allowing four earned runs, five walks and four hits with nine strikeouts over that span. He held left-handed hitters to a .077 average, and while he only allowed one hit to lefties, four of his five walks came against the left side.
Alvarez made his big league debut last September after starting his season at Low-A Savannah in the South Atlantic League. He appeared in four games for the Mets last year, allowing two runs and four hits in 1 1/3 innings.
With this transaction, Blevins, Torres and Sean Gilmartin are the only left-handed relievers left in big league camp, all of whom are likely to make the club on Opening Day.
