The Mets have adjusted the schedules for their starting pitching as the regular season gets closer.
Matt Harvey will start today against the Cardinals in Jupiter, and will throw approximately 80 pitches. Tomorrow, Jacob deGrom will face the Nationals in Port St. Lucie, Sunday Dillon Gee will face St. Louis in Jupiter. Then, Rafael Montero will pitch against the Marlins in Port St. Lucie, followed by Jon Niese against the Nationals in Viera on Tuesday, and Bartolo Colon against the Cardinals on Wednesday in Port St. Lucie.
It’s not clear when or if Harvey will pitch in a major league exhibition game this spring. He could face the Cardinals next Thursday in Jupiter, although it would make more sense to have deGrom pitch that day since that is his regular turn in the rotation. I could see Harvey pitching next Friday against the Rangers, as that would give him six days of rest in between starts, and five days of rest before his regular season debut.
