Jon Niese has battled shoulder fatigue this spring

M BaronThroughout Spring Training, Jon Niese has declared his arm problems from 2013 and 2014 a thing of the past.

But despite that declaration and positive results this spring, Niese told Andy Martino of the Daily News on Thursday he’s dealt with some fatigue in his left shoulder this month.

Niese tweaked his mechanics during an intrasquad game on Thursday, and said he felt an improvement.

“It actually felt a lot better,” Niese told Martino. “I wasn’t fatigued at the end.”

Hopefully Niese was dealing with a simple case of dead arm and nothing more, as the Mets really don’t need another arm injury to hit their rotation.

Normally there wouldn’t be a concern about this, but it’s worth watching over the course of the year considering Niese has dealt with numerous arm problems over the last couple of years. He has clearly been working on throwing more over the top this spring, which is reminiscent of his delivery before he injured his arm two years ago. That has translated into early success for Niese, – hopefully all of this can be maintained into the season.

Niese is 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 10 1/3 innings of three Grapefruit League games this spring.
