Wilmer Flores has a bruised foot, only expects to be out a few days

M BaronThe Mets injury problems didn’t improve much on Sunday afternoon.

Wilmer Flores is in a walking boot after taking a foul ball off his left foot during Sunday’s game, reports Marly Rivera from ESPN.

Flores will have x-rays performed on his foot this afternoon.

Flores went 0-for-3 with a strikeout on Sunday against the Yankees. He’s hitting .342 on the spring.

It’s too early to tell what this means, but at best Flores will probably miss a few days. However, if this is a longer-term problem, that could mean Matt Reynolds will shift to shortstop, leaving a potential competition between Daniel Muno and Ruben Tejada at second base in the event Daniel Murphy’s hamstring doesn’t improve by Opening Day.

No matter what, this is the last thing the Mets needed given everything else which has gone on lately.

March 22, 9:32 PM:  X-rays on Flores’ foot were negative, but will remain in a walking boot over the next couple of days.

March 23, 9:10 AM: Flores is still in considerable pain, but believes he will be able to play on Opening Day and only expects to miss a few days, he told reporters at Tradition Field on Monday.
