For the entire spring, the Mets have kept their initial starting rotation under wraps.
However, Terry Collins said on Saturday he intends to announce who will start on Opening Day.
With that said, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York cites a source who said Bartolo Colon will start on Opening Day against the Nationals on April 6.
In addition, Rubin writes Jacob deGrom will start April 8, and Matt Harvey will start on April 9.
That means, as expected, deGrom will start the home opener on April 13, and Harvey will start the second home game on April 9.
None of this is unexpected. To me, Colon starting on Opening Day has less to do with Colon, and more to do with showcasing deGrom and Harvey at home the following week.
The Mets have clearly aligned their rotation in a way that sets this up for the rest of camp. It means Harvey will start a day game in Washington when it’s potentially warmer, and also the second home game which could create a bigger draw for the club.
I have no problem with that mindset – the second home game typically has a quieter atmosphere, and this will help to create two electric days at the ballpark.

I’m sure they also want to protect Harvey from overthrowing if he pitches in either opener but no matter what he’ll have his adreline pumping for his two starts. I couldn’t care less about the alignment, all I worry about is everyone staying healthy, productive, and the following 150+ games that follow.

This stunt will influence the rotation beyond the first 3 games genius and every other team is baseball is leading off with their ace except us. This is all about filling some extra seats

[…] As I wrote yesterday, this was all expected and makes sense for a number of reasons, which you can read here. […]
