Ruben Tejada was 1-for-13 during Spring Training entering Wednesday’s game against the Marlins, but he recorded two consecutive doubles in his first two plate appearances.
Tejada drove in a run with his first double, and drove in another run when he showed patience in drawing a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning.
In addition, Tejada started at third base and made a few nice plays, including a double play to help Matt Harvey out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning.
Tejada is probably going to be here for now, barring something really drastic and unexpected over the next few weeks. So, it would be nice if he could show something at this point in his career. I think his exposure could be limited in this part-time utility role the Mets have him slated for, with an occasional start to keep him loose. Hopefully it works out and he can develop a niche for himself, whether his future is in Flushing or elsewhere.
It’s worth noting Tejada’s money is not guaranteed throughout the season since he is arbitration eligible. If the team decides to part ways with him, they only owe him for the time he is on the roster…
