Mets bench coach Bob Geren has requested Terry Collins pair both Travis d’Arnaud and Matt Harvey as much as possible this spring, tweets Kristie Ackert of the Daily News.
d’Arnaud is catching Harvey’s start today. He started and caught Harvey’s first start of the spring last Friday.
This is an important and understated situation. The two really have to re-familiarize themselves with each other, as d’Arnaud has only caught one regular season game from Harvey in his career, which was two years ago. The pitcher-catcher relationship is important, and it’s going to be especially important these two work well together so to keep Travis’ bat in the lineup when Harvey starts.
I recall Harvey telling me in spring training two years how much liked to throw to Travis, and he appreciated Travis’ ability to frame his pitches. So, this should be a pretty simple process for the two…
