Yu Darvish to have MRI on right triceps

M BaronYu Darvish will undergo an MRI on his right triceps, the Rangers announced on Friday.

Darvish felt tightness in his tricep while warming up in the bullpen prior to his start on Thursday, and left his spring training debut after only one inning.

Yu Darvish“I don’t really think it’s anything to worry about,” Darvish said on Thursday. “I commanded my pitches. I didn’t throw hard. I worked on my location.”

Darvish went 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 22 starts in 2014. He missed most of the final two months of the year with elbow inflammation.

Earlier this week, Sandy Alderson told reporters in Port St. Lucie he was not actively engaged in trade talks for one of his starting pitchers. He said if a trade were to be made, it wouldn’t be until the end of spring training or if a club had an injury to one of their starting pitchers.

We have to wait and see how this plays out, but if this injury is significant, I wonder if this could spur the Rangers to act and find a replacement. The Mets and Rangers had of course been linked in various rumors during the off-season, most notably surrounding Dillon Gee. While Sandy claims there are no active trade discussions ongoing, this is exactly the kind of scenario he referred to as a possibility to move one of his starters.
