Jacob deGrom intends to work on his curveball during Spring Training, writes Kevin Kernan of the New York Post.
deGrom was developing the curveball prior last season, but he tabled it last spring in an attempt to make the team out of camp.
“I was trying to show them what I had and my curveball was a new pitch,” deGrom told Kernan.
Since deGrom is already in the 2015 rotation, he can now focus on his mechanics and the development of his curve.
“It’s a great pitch whether it be strike one or a strikeout pitch,’’ deGrom explained. “Talking to Gee, Wheeler and all those guys and see how they throw theirs and taking little bits of information from them and trying it in bullpens. Sometimes I throw it at 78 (mph) and that’s a big difference from the slider. It gets the hitter off balance.’’
