Zack Wheeler on challenging the Nationals

M BaronZack Wheeler told John Harper of the Daily News the Mets have something to prove against the Nationals this season, and is looking forward to challenging them in the National League East in 2015.

“I guarantee you we all saw what Bryce Harper said [when the Nationals signed Max Scherzer],” Wheeler said. “He said, ‘give me my ring.’ We’re going to make it hard for him to get that ring, I’ll guarantee you that.”

I love the attitude. I mean, the Mets have a lot to prove against the Nationals, as they got their butts whipped by them last year. So, they have to prove they can play on the same field as them, or any other team above .500 for that matter since they were 19 games under .500 against teams with a .500 or better record in 2014. But he is confident in himself and how much he and the pitching staff have grown. Frankly, I’d be concerned if Zack or anyone else expressed anything other than confidence.

The Mets went 4-15 against the Nationals in 2014.
