Quick Recap
In his first at-bat for the Mets, John Mayberry went deep off Max Scherzer.
Bartolo Colon pitched two perfect innings in his Spring debut.
Eric Campbell hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run 3rd inning.
Pitching prospect Corey Mazzoni struggled, allowing two earned runs in the 7th.
John Mayberry made quite the first impression, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a walk in his first Spring game with the Mets. Bartolo Colon started where he left off last season as he pumped in the strikes tonight, pitching two perfect innings and throwing just 10 pitches — all of them for strikes.
As impressive as Colon was tonight, the real show Mets fans have been waiting for will be on the mound tomorrow afternoon as Matt Harvey makes his highly anticipated return to the hill. Harvey’s scheduled to pitch two innings with a pitch count maxing out at about 35-40. To sweeten the pot, Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to follow Harvey on the mound. As far as Spring Training goes, it doesn’t get much more exciting than this.
Up Next: The Mets travel home to Tradition Field on Friday afternoon as Matt Harvey makes his return against David Price and the Detroit Tigers at 1:10 pm.
