Quick Recap
Dillon Gee allowed two hits, two walks and two earned runs in two innings of work.
Wilmer Flores left the game in the top of the fifth after being hit in the wrist by a pitch.
Matt Reynolds went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored after coming in to replace Flores.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his Spring debut.
Triple-A catcher Johnny Monell blasted a pinch-hit, 3-run homer in the top of the sixth.
Following an offseason with a lot of rumors swirling, Dillon Gee made his Spring Training debut Wednesday afternoon. After a slog of a first inning in which he allowed two hits, two walks and two earned runs, Gee ended his day on a good note with a six pitch, 1-2-3 second inning. I was also impressed with Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who went 4-for-4 today, as he begins his battle for the fifth outfielder spot on this roster. It’s important to remember that Spring Training results mean little to nothing, especially this early on in the game, but man, it’s good to have Mets baseball back.
Up Next: The Mets travel to Space Coast Stadium to face the division rival Washington Nationals on Thursday night as Bartolo Colon makes the start against Max Scherzer at 5:05 pm.
