On Tuesday, David Wright and Bobby Parnell scolded Noah Syndergaard for not appearing in the dugout during the team’s intrasquad game at Tradition Field, according to the Daily News.
This morning, Wright apologized to Syndergaard for speaking to him about this subject inside the clubhouse, in which many members of the media were located.
“I apologized to him for not realizing – obviously, I chose to do it so it’s not the media’s fault,” Wright told reporters on Wednesday morning. “I didn’t notice that the media was in earshot.”
Still, Syndergaard knows he made a mistake, and has learned from the incident.
“It was really a mistake on my part,” Syndergaard explained to Matt Ehalt of the Bergen Record. “Straight up ignorance on my part thinking I could go in there during the game and grab a quick bite to eat but it was just a learning experience for me. Should have been on the bench.”
Wright insists he wasn’t trying to be malicious, and says Parnell threw out Syndergaard’s food in a joking manner.
“There was no chastising going on,” Wright said, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. “I was giving a guy a hard time. I do most things with a smile on my face, or I like to think I do. There was nothing malicious.”
